A Thousand Words III

I’ve actually been working this up for a bit. For some reason, I’ve become a bit persnickety about the photos I sometimes glean off the internet and couldn’t quite come to a resolution on ones I might want to post. But, tonight is a perfect night for it. I’m exhausted. The play is almost wrestled to ground. It’s tennish. I don’t feel like staying up late and I have a ton of work to do tomorrow and thereafter, as always. So, without further ado, a gallery of images that spark moods, characters, stories, or memories inside of me. Hopefully, they may do the same for you. (Helps if you listen to some Miles Davis or Coleman Hawkins while you look at them, just saying.)

These last two are a bit more about me and thus deserve some captions to explain:

Near Positano in Italy. This is where I will retire to write novels for my own amusement. Literally to a balcony just like this. Mark my words.

Where I will be joined by my faithful companion, Fellini, whom I will play fetch with on our long afternoon walks together along the coast and through the hills. He may have a companion, that looks just like him, named Ford. It all depends on the size of the Villa we decide upon.

Ciao!

I love all of these. The first looks like a painting! And the last two, so richly imagined and deserved – I believe you’ll get just that. But can you maybe retire there between big projects? Not sure I ever want to just hang it up for good.

Hahaha. I figure it will be more of a retreat and less of a retirement. You know? I can’t imagine hanging it up, either. Billy Wilder kept going into his office, writing and working on projects until he passed at 96. I could, all too easily, see doing that as well. :-)

    You wrote:

    “without further adieu” —

It should be “without further ado”.

“Adieu” is the French of “Farewell” (well, with additional subtleties related to the fact that the next time those hypothetical two will see each other again, it’s most likely be in Heaven, in the presence of God – Hence the reference to God (Dieu) as this word is really the contraction of “A” and “Dieu” (To-God) -

There. Enough randomly bashing one stranger in one night.

    Sorry.

There you go, Phillippe . Thanks for the knowledge!

I like this Fellini and Ford…. They look like they’d enjoy the balcony and beach almost as much as I will when I come visit and soak in your Italian Glory.

Oh, wasn’t that an invitation? I mean, what’s the point of having an Italian Villa if your friends can’t come mooch off you for a bit now and then ;)

  6. doc says on :

Tiff – Hahaha. Very excellent point. Maybe their will be two compounds – one in Malibu and one on the Amalfi Coast. That way you can come and visit to your heart’s delight!

  7. Philippe says on :

Err – I read “Malibu” here – Since I was living across the street from the ocean, directly onto PCH for 3 months last year, I wonder why someone is talking about Malibu -

I mean, I thought people were talking about Positano – Not Malibu… (i.e. the picture) – When did the change occur? What did I miss?

    Matthew,
Thanks for the kind words. All is well here, the boys are counting down the days. Schools out!!! I too am feeling a little ready to see the end. When you get that villa, Kent and I will be there ( we might not leave!!) If you need a change of scene this summer we would love to see you.

  9. Kathie says on :

Great pics…I love the first and the third…but that balcony does look mighty inviting!

  10. jason says on :

Philippe – I think Tiff was saying maybe Matt could have a place in Malibu and Italy. I don’t think it’s a bad idea.

  11. doc says on :

    Exactly right, Jason!

  12. doc says on :

Kathie – I’m with you on those choices. I love the third. It was part of a series on FLICKR, all like that in tone, basically trying to capture the shy little girl with her grandfather. They set an intriguing mood.

Caroline – Tell the boys and Kent hello for me! You all are welcome any time when I get the villa set up. :-) Just a matter of making a few sales here and there, catching the right project and riding it all the way to the end. Are you watching Friday Night Lights? I seem to recall that you were a fan. I’m thoroughly hooked on it and am racing through season three so I can watch season four as it airs. Such great everything.
